Delightful Deco Dining Room Suite Tops Auction

The lot which travelled the furthest to the Charterhouse auction on Friday 18th January proved to be the top lot of the day, despite the weather. “As a company we travel extensively throughout the country, not only just within the immediate locality and the top lot Art Deco dining room suite we sold was consigned to us from a client in Essex. ” Commented Richard Bromell. “Admittedly when I woke on the Friday auction morning to see nothing but snow I was a little concerned. However, the first buyer into the saleroom travelled up from Devon and after that it was business as usual. This, combined with a large amount of telephone bids and buyers bidding extensively on line through via the internet, resulted in a great day! “The suite comprises a dining table, a set of 6 chairs with cloud shaped backs, a serving table and, of course, a cocktail cabinet. The high Art Deco design of the suite probably dates it to around 1930. Today suites which include all the main parts, are hotly contested, with the Charterhouse suite selling for £6,600. Also from the same client, was a similar nest of tables which amazed everyone when they sold for £1,100.February is another busy month at Charterhouse as they have their auction of classic cars and motorcycles on Sunday 10th at Shepton Mallet, closely followed by an auction of silver, jewellery, coins, watches & antiques on Thursday 14th & Friday 15th February.
