A 1960’s plastic, doll and her playmate, are expected to sell for over £1,000 in the Charterhouse two day March 5th & 6th collector’s auction.
“I have always enjoyed collector’s auctions.” Commented Richard Bromell. “There are coins, medals, stamps, model trains, cars and of course dolls. The variety always includes the weird and wonderful and certainly these two dolls come under the wonderful section.”
The two plastic dolls were bought for the owner as a little girl in the late 1960’s. Known as Sasha dolls, they were named after their Swiss artist and doll maker Sasha Morgenthaler.
The dolls, Sasha and Gregor, come to auction in pretty much the same condition they were in when the owner was given them over 50 years ago and is testament to how carefully she looked after and played with them as a little girl. Whilst many children and their siblings played with dolls, they often gave them a haircut, left them out it the rain or allowed the dog to ran off with them and chew them.
Once just regarded as second hand old toys of no real value, today Sasha, with her brunette hair and blue gingham dress, is estimated at £800-1,200 whilst her friend, blonde Gregor, wears a brown cord dungaree outfit and is valued at £200-400.
