Marathon Three Days of Auctions

Whilst some people are thinking of their summer holidays relaxing in the sun it is full steam ahead at Charterhouse in Sherborne as they set off on a mammoth three days of auctions on the 18th, 19th and 21st July.

“To say we have been busy is probably an understatement!” Commented Richard Bromell. “Our team of specialist valuers have travelled far and wide to put together an amazing array of pictures, automobilia, antiques and classic cars and with estimates from £50 to £70,000 there is plenty of choice.”

First up of the auctions, on Thursday 18th July starting at 12 noon, are pictures, books and a huge collection of automobilia.

Highlights of the auction here are a pair of Richard Sidney Percy oil paintings of Wales estimated at £12,000-18,000, a collection of 50 paintings from the studio of Rudolf Helmut Sauter, £50-300 each, a large pair of Victorian portraits from an old Somerset rectory £800-1,200, a 1551 Cosmographia book which lived in a chest of drawers for years £1,000-1,500 and hundreds of lots of automobilia including petrol pump globes and enamel signs.

Next up, on Friday 19th July starting at 10.00am there are a large pair of late 19th century Dresden vase from a client in London £400-600, a large Japanese bronze figure of a Stork, found in a garden £200-400 and a large mahogany three pillar dining table £1,000-2,000.

Finally, on Sunday 21st July at 1.00pm, Charterhouse have hundreds of thousands of pounds of classic and vintage cars going under their hammer in a marquee at Sherborne Castle in conjunction with the Classic & Supercar Show.

Top lot here is a black 2010 Porsche 911 (997) Turbo. With just 38,000 miles and full Porsche service history, it is estimated at £60,000-70,000. For more sedate driving there is a fully restored 1960 Land Rover at £12,000-14,000 and for those looking for a restoration project there is a Roll-Royce Wraith which when ordered in 1941 was factory painted in camouflage, for £7,000-9,000.

Charterhouse are now accepting further entries for their busy summer auction programme with silver, jewellery and watches with a selection of wine, port and whisky in August and for their auction of classic and vintage motorcycles being held at the Haynes International Motor Museum also in August.
