“It is a beautifully constructed scratch built 3.5 inch scale model of a British Railways steam locomotive and tender which the owner built and ran in his back garden pulling his grandchildren!” Commented Richard Bromell. “Although we do not know how long it took him to build the engine and tender, it must have taken 1,000’s of highly skilled hours.”
Sadly the Devon owner passed away and Charterhouse were invited by the family to his home for help and advice. Wanting the locomotive to go to a good home, where it might pull more friends and family again, they decided to enter it into the Charterhouse auction of collector’s items on Friday 22nd September.
Estimated at £3,000-5,000 plus buyer’s premium 24% (inc Vat) it will attract interest from live steam enthusiasts and model collectors alike.
Viewing for this auction on the 22nd, which also has other collector’s items including medals, coins, stamps and militaria, is on Wednesday 20th 10am-6pm and Thursday 21st 9am-5pm, or you can see all the lots and download the auction catalogue on www.charterhouse-auction.com
Charterhouse is now accepting further entries for their busy programme of auctions which include Beswick and Royal Doulton in November, along with pictures, books and maps and a selection of hunting, shooting, fishing and other sporting items, closely followed in November with classic and vintage cars.
