Current vacancies

1 -Bookkeeper, Payroll and Accounts Assistant

Charterhouse is a busy, established, family run auction house, working in a lovely listed building in the beautiful market town of Sherborne in Dorset.

We use Sage, and are looking for an experienced Accounts Assistant, who will need to have an in-depth knowledge of, and main responsibility for:

  • Sage accounting and Payroll,
  • Double entry bookkeeping and preparation of weekly management accounts
  • Printing and reconciling the vendor payments
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Processing and maintaining Payroll and Auto enrolment, and resolving any queries
  • Raising client invoices
  • Reconciling and chasing of payments from customers
  • RTI reporting
  • Management of the year-end process

Applicants should have a strong understanding of bookkeeping to trial balance, management accounting and full function payroll. We are not expecting experience within the auction environment, but this would be a bonus. You will need excellent general PC knowledge including Microsoft office. You will need to demonstrate excellent customer service skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

This is not a junior/trainee role and requires an independent, methodical self-disciplined person, who is happy in a fast-paced environment.  The suitable candidate will be able to think on their feet, and mentally adapt quickly to the constant challenges of bookkeeping and payroll. You must be able to work on your own initiative, but good communication is also essential, as we are a team.

Internal systems training will be given where required, but this person must have a very good bookkeeping foundation as this is a demanding role, where you must be able to work independently, with some support from our accountants. For the right person, this is a rewarding position.

2 – PA to head of the Car Department

Qualities required:

  • Strong administration skills
  • Diary management experience, knowledge of the West country would be helpful
  • Customer facing experience – you need to like people!
  • Typing skills – computer literacy (Windows and Word)
  • Experience working accurately to deadlines
  • A smart appearance
  • Numeracy and good organisational skills

Duties:

  • Assistance with all aspects of administration of the classic Car and Motorbike  department
  • Dealing with all telephone enquiries relating to diary appointments and diary management
  • Cold calling prospective clients
  • Answering the telephone generally, if reception is busy
  • Secretarial work using Microsoft Word
  • Maintaining and processing documentation for vehicle auctions
  • Assisting at all vehicle auctions, including at weekend auctions,  being in charge of documentation and ensuring we have all relevant information for each vehicle and client, liaising with clients as vehicles are delivered. Assisting prospective purchasers during the sale with documentation and vehicle viewing, helping after the sale with vehicle collection, calling clients.

3 – Saleroom Porter

We are looking for a full-time Saleroom Porter
to join our busy and hard-working team in Sherborne.
This will involve moving furniture and dealing with many of our clients. You will need to be computer literate and an interest in photography would be helpful. Some weekend work.
